3 MONTH GOAL CHECK IN

Happy Fri-Yay, ladies! How has your week been? More still, how has your year been? It’s pretty much the end of March, which means we’re officially 1/3 of the way through the year. My mind is kind of blown. I set some major goals this year and it’s time to review the progress. I’m going to walk you through my 3 month goal check in and I encourage you to do this for yourself as well! The only way you’ll ever be able to reach your goals is if you stay in tune with them – so let’s just get started!

YOUR 3 MONTH GOAL CHECK IN

It’s important to do a 3 month check in, or any kind of regular check on your goals, so you can determine if you’re making good progress. One thing I realized right away was that even though I felt like I had gotten a lot done on my goals, when I looked back at them, I couldn’t pinpoint very many mini-goals that I had definitely finished. But, I also didn’t write down very many small goals. So even though I had been working on my goals, I hadn’t made them measurable in the right ways.

Use your goal check in to gauge your progress. Imagine a older mercury thermometer, your goal progress is the mercury rising inside. In fact, go ahead and draw a couple thermometers. Label each as a big goal you have, and color it in to how far along you are. The little temperature lines are the mini goals that make up your big goal. If you can’t figure out a way to color in your thermometer, you haven’t broken your goals down properly.

At this point, your one year goals should be 1/4 of the way filled in. Think about the goals you’re behind on, are you in control of those goals? If not, you may want to reconsider how you word or phrase them. 10k on Instagram isn’t really truly within your control, but changing how and when you post to increase engagement is. If the goal is within your control, evaluate your timeline. You might need to make your one year goal a one-and-a-half year goal.

Brain dump your goals I like to use blank paper and different colored pens and markers to visualize where I’m at. I also make a list. Evaluate your goals using a minimum of two methods. The more methods of brain dumping and evaluating you use, the better because it allows you to come up with more solutions by using different thought pathways.

MY GOALS MOVING FORWARD

From my check in, I can tell that I haven’t found a rhythm yet. I feel like I’ve been working hard, but I can see that I’m not progressing how I hoped. That can only mean one thing: something isn’t working. In part, I can blame the increased anxiety I’ve been dealing with. It’s causing me to tire out faster, sleep more, and struggle to focus on simple tasks. It’s caused by many things, including my inability to focus which means I’ve become trapped in a cycle.

Moving forward, I need to find focus. The question is how? My plan for conquering my goals this year was to chip away at most or all of them daily or on a weekly basis. I think that’s caused my mind to feel a little overwhelmed. Moving forward, I’ve decided to have a focus goal each day. Rather than working on two or three goals per day, I’ll spend each day working on one goal or one facet of one goal.

Focus days look like a day dedicated to writing all of my blog posts for the week, filming videos for the next couple weeks, editing in it’s various forms, planning our wedding, etc. This system allows me to really dig into a goal or activity and removes the guilt of not working on something else.

There’s definitely certain goals that require daily practice, but I’ve re-evaluated those goals and created a daily habit tracker of activities that won’t take more than 4-5 hours to complete, leaving the rest of the day to work.

HOW TO LOOK AT YOUR GOALS MOVING FORWARD

Now it’s your turn. Don’t just ask yourself what has worked and what hasn’t. Dig really deep. Consider these questions when re-evaluating your goals:

  1. How have I been spending my time?
  2. What goals am I still excited about? Are there any goals I don’t care about anymore?
  3. What goals should I put off for the next period, or completely?
  4. Is the way I work as efficient as it could be? How can I make my day more efficient?
  5. What steps need to be completed in order to accomplish my goal?
  6. Is this goal within my control? (Getting 10k on IG is not in your control, there’s too many other factors.)
  7. How do I feel about the progress I think I’ve made?
  8. Can I measure my goal with smaller, achievable goals?
  9. Where should I be 3 months from now?
How are you doing on your goals this year? Have you knocked them out of the park, or are you still struggling to find a rhythm.
