DORM DIY: MAKEUP BRUSH HOLDER

Today I bring you the easiest and most difficult DIY you will ever do. 😉 The most difficult part is the prep and hunting down the supplies you need. I was having a bad day the day I made mine, so 1) that probably contributed to its difficulty; and 2) I hope I didn’t jinx it for you if you decide to go for it. Even if I did, I promise the result is worth it.

My brushes used to get so damaged in my make up bag. Compacts would open, powders would spread, mascara would leak – all of that affected the brushes I kept shoved in there. I wanted to keep them out, but in a pretty way. A jar wouldn’t be enough because I’m lazy and, well, I don’t wash them enough. But I use the same colors on the same brushes so I didn’t want them rubbing onto each other or dirtying the clean ones. The solution: a filled vase.

I spent $20 on my supplies, you could spend less using a vase you already have or shopping the sales section or a local flee market. I was going for a very specific look, and I intend to use this for a long time, so I didn’t mind spending on it.

WHAT YOU NEED:
VASE
FINE FILLER (The one I used is a bit chunky, so go smaller.)
BLOW DRYER (If there’s stickers on your vase.)
WINDEX/GLASS CLEANER

STEP 1:
Remove the sticker and use the blow dryer to melt off the glue. If you have a sticker cleaner, even better, but this is a dorm DIY so I’m assuming supplies are limited. This is literally the most difficult part.
STEP 2:
Clean the glass really well. Once you fill it you won’t want to empty it, but you’ll see finger prints so get it clean.

STEP 3:
Carefully add the filler. The color reminded me of water, so I poured mine in in a wavy shape to add some interest and complement the shape of the glass.

STEP 4:
Stick your brushes in and marvel at your creative genius. I haven’t put my new brushes in, except my mineral powder brush, because I can’t bare to take them out of the packaging yet. As I start needing them, they’ll enter the collection. I’m really happy with the final product. It’s exactly what I wanted.

I also sacrificed schoolwork found a little time to do my nails this weekend. I used scotch tape to make the design. I’m really pleased with the result. I have a couple cuts so I’ve been gently peeling the edges off rather than subjecting myself to the burn of nail polish remover. I’m so happy to have them painted, just having my nails done motivates me so much!
