FORMULAIC FASHION: SPRING EDITION
The business of life is never ending. I relish the days that I can spend an hour or two getting ready, perfecting my outfit, and experimenting with new looks. Unfortunately, those days are few and far between. Just a few months ago, I shared my favorite fashion formulas. A simple equation can take throwing clothes on from looking like you just threw something on to looking like you woke unreasonably early – in a good way. As the weather starts to warm up, I have to start switching up my formulas. Obviously sweaters and boots aren’t the best idea in 75+ temperatures.
Spring is a hard season to dress for. In the morning, it’s freezing. But by the afternoon, too many layers and you’re boiling. I love keeping it simple and light underneath a fun jacket or blazer. It is still a little chilly in the morning, but it warms up quickly and a cup of hot coffee is enough to stave off the chill for a few hours till then.
A lipgloss somewhere between a soft pink and a nude is a handbag essential. It looks great (and intentional) with just about any outfit: “Sure, a bold red lip would look great, but I was going for something a little more subtle today.” A roller or mini perfume is another great cosmetic bag addition, especially if you’re frequently late and/or live somewhere warm. As you create your own formulas or modify these, remember to keep them simple. When you make them too specific, you force yourself into a tiresome routine. Keep the list to about 4 to 5 items, and skip on necessities (like shoes or a specific kind of top) to force yourself to be a little bit creative in the morning. Dressing is enjoyable, so don’t suck out all of the pleasure by sticking only to what you’ve written down. These formulas are just to spark your inner stylist or sub for her on a sick day.
