3 FEATURES OF EVERY CHIC LOOK

Happy Wednesday, ladies! Last week I busted a few summertime fashion myths. Something I talked about in that post was that I don’t really believe in style rules and creating a box around what fashion should look like. However, I do think there are certain consistencies and things that you see in every chic look. And that’s what I’m talking about in today’s post!

PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL

This seems obvious, but even I’ve lost sight of this one a few times. But pay attention to detail. If you’re mixing metals, be conscious of it. Be aware of how something actually fits on your body, not just looks on the rack. There’s nothing wrong with adding a million accessories if you love that look, but be aware of how they play together. This is the most time consuming part of any chic look, which is why I advocate for fashion formulas, but it is so important. A well-composed look is a consciously composed look.

BE WELL GROOMED

This is another concept that’s easy to overlook. Sometimes we spend so much time on our outfit, we forgot to do our hair or sloppily apply makeup. If your not someone who loves having their nails painted or has the time to maintain them, at least make sure they’re all trimmed evenly and not jagged and broken. Practice the perfect ponytail until you can get it in seconds. But make an effort to have your hair, nails, and makeup be well done, even if only minimally done. This really is the completing feature of a chic look and makes a huge difference in your attitude while wearing it. Which brings me to my last point…

HAVE A KILLER ATTITUDE & A SMILE

Confidence and a smile make an outfit. Even the edgiest, all black and studded look looks best with a smile. At least in real life. We all can appreciate the beauty of a moody photo featuring a blank face and a tough attitude. But in life, you just come off looking unapproachable. Other people feel uncomfortable and it takes something away from world, rather than adding something to it. At the end of the day, people simply won’t notice the all the detail (see above) you paid attention to in your look if all they see is a bad attitude.

Now, this is not to say that we don’t have bad days. Or that RBF isn’t a thing. But it’s something to be conscious of. And remember, you can’t control your day, but you can control how you respond to it. So make happiness and a good attitude a choice.

What do you think makes a chic look?
