HOW TO WHITEN YOUR TEETH AT HOME WITH SMILE BRILLIANT + A GIVEAWAY

Happy Wednesday, ladies! I hope you’re enjoying the New Year! On Monday, I talked about setting resolutions and my own personal resolutions for the New Year. One of those was to have whiter and brighter teeth so I felt more comfortable smiling big in photos and even getting into videos! Well, today I’m excited to share exactly how I’m going to accomplish that goal with Smile Brilliant. And how you can, too!

THE WHITENING RESOLUTION

Resolutions are easy to make and hard to keep. And most of the time, the resolutions we set for our appearance (hello, “THIS is the year I will lose ALL of the pounds”) are the biggest failures. But that doesn’t have to be the case. Honestly, a big huge smile will do more for your happiness and confidence than losing a million pounds ever would. Literally. Scientists and researchers have shown that by smiling a real big, toothy, and eye scrunching smile (AKA, an honest smile) the muscles involved trigger the release of happy chemicals in your brain. Cue Legally Blonde reference.

Anyway, a smile is a big deal and it’s really important for your happiness. But if you’re like me and embarrassed by your teeth, smiling can be rough.

MY TEETH + PREVIOUS WHITENING EXPERIENCE

I started whitening my teeth in college and I definitely did see results with regular ol’ white strips. But I’m unwilling to give up my coffee and tea so it didn’t last long. I also didn’t like using the 1 hour extra strong white strips often, and I needed to, because my teeth were just so sensitive. I already had sensitive teeth and gums so the strips just aggravated it. It was horrible; so I never really whitened enough to see consistent improvement.

But I still wanted whiter teeth, and I wanted a professional home teeth whitening system as opposed to super expensive dentist teeth whitening, so when the opportunity to work with Smile Brilliant came up, I jumped on it. I loved that I would be able to get a teeth whitening tray that was mold of MY teeth to whiten with. Strips were so frustrating because they always fell off and didn’t actually whiten anything more than my front six teeth.

THE DESENSITIZING GEL

What really sold me, though, was the desensitizing gel. I had high hopes for this particular step and I have to say, they were exceeded. I truly believe this is my new holy grail tooth product. Is that weird to say? But really, it’s made SUCH a difference.

For this review I tried whitening for different lengths of time to test my tooth sensitivity and the strength of the product. Well, it turns out three hours was too much for me and even though I did the 20 minutes of desensitizing gel, about four teeth were still kind of hurting. I didn’t know if it would work because it’s technically supposed to follow the teeth whitener, but the next day when they were still sore I tried skipping the whitening and just brushing really well with a whitening toothpaste and then applying the desensitizing gel for another 20 minutes. And it worked. Really well. The pain and discomfort of teeth sensitivity was gone and my new pearly whites were looking great.

I also read this article about the causes of tooth sensitivity and how to prevent it on the Smile Brilliant website. Did you know eating fish can help strengthen your teeth? Totally crazy, but I’m all for trying that out! The tips have been super helpful with my teeth sensitivity issues so I recommend you check it out if you suffer the same! The advice has been really helpful and I’m tempted to print out a little list of the foods and other things that can help or hurt my teeth to keep in my bathroom for reference.

BEFORE & AFTER

So here’s my before and after! Although, I’d like to call it an in progress because I will continue to whiten with Smile Brilliant for as long as I continue to stain my teeth with coffee and tea. (So… forever.)

Like I said before, I tried whitening for various lengths of times to see what worked best for me. In the end, an hour and a half has proven to be the most effective length of time for my sensitive teeth. I use it right before bed so the desensitizing gel can hang out and work its magic while I’m sleeping. The photo above reflects 7 treatments of varying lengths totaling up to about 10 hours. I did skip a day or two in between the longer treatments to give my teeth a break, and I didn’t give up coffee or tea at all. In fact, I didn’t even cut back on how much coffee and tea and wine I drank. I got results despite them, which I find incredibly amazing.

I’m truly impressed and in love with the whitening products, the ease of use, of making the molds, and the speed with which I was able to get started.

It’s also a great video if you’re getting a kit and want a tutorial for how to mix the mold ingredients and make your own custom mold. The whole process is really simple. But a video is always helpful to make sure you get it right the first time.
