When I saw this look by Cara of A Fashion Love Affair, I immediately remembered that I own a very similar dress, ages old, from American Eagle. It’s kind of itchy so I don’t wear it too often, but I do like it. For some reason, I never thought to layer a top underneath it. It seems so simple now, and it’s perfect for bringing summer pieces to the winter. (Not that California is having much of a winter this year. Sunny and 82? Take that polar vortex.)

Last time I did a post about replicating a look, by another Blogger, Chiara Ferragni, I tried to replicate it exactly, but for less. This time, I wanted to take a fresh look on it. I’m picturing this winterizing a million strapless dresses (and maybe some skirts?), but I really liked the plaid so I stuck with it in this post. This plaid dress was a little punky, so I decided to run with that concept. I loved the look of the ruffle top, I think it would add a lot to this dress. It also feminizes the black and studs. I didn’t want the look to be overly dark, so I skipped a black bag and went for this cool silver one by Marni. Bright red lipstick is the perfect finishing touch.
