CUBICLE TO COCKTAIL: DRESS IT DOWN

May 15, 2017

Happy Monday, ladies! How was your Mother’s Day weekend? Chris had a three day weekend so we got to work on a few projects together which was really nice! But today we’re talking about taking your look Cubicle to Cocktail, with a focus on how to dress it down. I love a good versatile look, especially because I hate spending time changing into an entirely different outfit just to go grab dinner. But a formal office look doesn’t always translate to pub food well, and it’s not always comfortable (or white-safe, if you’re a messy eater like me!). So I wanted to take a more dressed up work outfit and give you a few tips for taking it down a notch by only changing one (or maybe two) pieces.

PICK THE RIGHT TOP

This is the step that requires the most thought, but it still isn’t that much. Even a pretty, plain t-shirt would work. Although, if there’s a breast pocket it may make it too casual. Personally, I love a simple knit like the one I wore in this post. It’s super easy to dress it down. The pattern is neither too casual, nor too formal, so when accessorized properly it becomes both. The slightly longer draped sleeve also somehow makes it both casual with jeans and fancy enough for work with a pencil skirt. When you opt for a bold pattern though, keep your accessories simple for both looks.

SWAP YOUR BOTTOMS

Now, all you need to do to dress it down and take your look from Cubicle to Cocktail is a switch of the bottoms. A dolman knit like this top looks great with any white or black professional piece. Mine is cropped though, so I have to make sure I always wear it tucked into a high waisted bottom to keep it professional. But that same cropped detail makes it instantly super casual when paired with denim. With the right top, you can switch to any casual bottom and have a perfect look.

BONUS: CHANGE YOUR FOOTWEAR

If you wear heels to work, you may want to swap them out for a more casual sandal or sneaker. My flares are a bit long though, so I always wear them with something with a heel. I could have opted for a wedge, but I was content to keep the same heels. The nude color is unobtrusive and because they’re a flat color, and not shiny, they dress down quite well.

What do you think of this Cubicle to Cocktail look? Are there any pieces or styles you need help taking from office to playtime?
