Initially, when I started this blog, I planned on doing a blog spotlight every month. Having a positive, loving community to go to on tough days really helped me, and I thought sharing my favorites would be a good way to return the favor. Unfortunately, as it always does, life got in the way and I simply didn’t have the time I wanted to dedicate to this. I’ve tackled nearly all the big items on my to-do list for the year this month, so I decided to sit down and write about one of my favorite bloggers, Kate from The Small Things Blog.

THE SMALL THINGS BLOG by KATE BRYAN

I discovered The Small Things Blog totally by accident, I think I clicked through a link from her sister, Lauren. Prior to my not-so-small discovery, I had been using The Beauty Department almost exclusively for beauty ideas, I wasn’t even a big Pinterest person. As soon as I saw Kate’s blog, I totally fell in love. She’s most known for her hair tutorials, I love that they are so simple and wearable. I think one of the biggest frustrations for me when I’m looking for a new style is that ideas are all so… out there. I don’t want a faux-hawk today, I just want something pretty – The Small Things Blog more than provided. Kate is also an excellent teacher, she explains things in multiple ways, multiple times in her videos – she doesn’t send you to video X, Y, and Z before you can complete the look, but she will reference a video if it explains it a little better.

I fell in love with The Small Things Blog first because of the great hairstyles, then because Kate has such an amazing personality. She is down to earth and kind and that really comes through in her posts and videos. She is straight-forward and real and doesn’t pretend to be anything more than she is. Some blogger’s it’s easy to wonder about who they really are behind the screen. But I’d bet money on the fact that Kate’s online persona is totally a real life girl. She has such a relaxing attitude, sometimes I wait a couple days to read her posts just to experience that calm.
