BLUEPRINT BEAUTY: SUBTLE SPARKLE FOR VALENTINE’S

Happy Friday, ladies! I think I’ve been slacking on the beauty posts lately, but they seem to be the hardest to shoot. Typically we do them indoors and our apartment has the worst lighting, except for like 2 hours during the day – usually the 2 hours we’re not home. A couple of soft lights are definitely on our wishlist. But we happened to be home during prime time this week, so I’m coming at you with a beauty tutorial! YAY! I love this look because it has just a subtle sparkle, and it can be done with just one tiny little palette. It’s also an incredibly easy look to deepen and build up, just spend a little more time blending and layering. I chose to keep the look more muted, check it out below!

SUBTLE SPARKLE FOR VALENTINE’S

  1. Start by using a large, fluffy eyeshadow brush to apply “gaze” all through your crease. It’s a soft color, but it builds really well, so keep layering until you’ve defined the area.
  2. Using a denser fluffy eyeshadow brush, apply “hotline” and a touch of “playful” deep into your crease. Go about 2/3 of the way from the outer crease to the corner of your eye. Use windshield-wiper motions until it’s well blended. Then, using a touch more “playful,” create a “v” shape on the outer corner to define your outer eye.
  3. Dip into “snuggle” with a dense smudging brush. Make double sure to tap off the excess on this step. Press the color onto your lower lash line, starting on the outer corner until 2/3 of the way toward the inner corner, making sure to thin the line as you go. Use the excess on the brush to flick out a little cat eye from your outer corner.
  4. Using “snuggle” on an angled liner brush, apply the color by pressing along your lower lash line, again about 2/3 of the way across the eye. Let the line become more narrow as you move inward.
  5. Using a pencil brush and a combo of “gaze” and “hotline,” smudge and blur out the color you just applied to your lower lash. Use more “gaze” toward the inner eye, and more “hotline” toward the outer corner.
  6. Take a dense flat brush, and mix “touch” and “passion” and apply to the lid. Use more “touch” on the outer lid, and carry “passion” from the center to your inner corner. Use a little Mac Fix+ or setting spray to help the application. You can also press the color on top of a glitter glue using your finger to really deepen the sparkle.
  7. Finish off the look by using your first fluffy brush, without apply any more color, to touch up any blending lines. Then apply your favorite mascara. I love Make Up For Ever’s Smoky Extravaganza.
  8. Apply your favorite setting spray and lipstick and you’re good to go!
What do you think of this subtle look? Do you like to keep it easy for Valentine’s, or go bold?
