BLOGGER’S BLURB: POSTS & RESOURCES TO GET YOU STARTED

Happy Fri-YAY, ladies! I’m coming at you with another blogging post today. Previously I’ve shared posts on how to get inspired, how to be the worst blogger ever, and my favorite blogging resources. Today’s post is going to be a little bit like the latter, except I’m going to share specific posts and articles to help you. I know the struggle of finding the right information, in a sea of information. Hours of searching just to find one concise and easy to read article about how to set up your Pinterest account. And everyone is an expert of different areas. Well, I’m an expert accumulator. And instead of pilfering and regurgitating everything I’ve learned, I’m giving my fellow bloggers and shout out and giving you the info straight from the source!

BLOG DESIGN

ELIZABETH STAPLETON. Disclosures are essential on your blog.  The FTC requires them if you are from the United States. And, they just help your readers understand  when and how they are being advertised to, and they protect you (the blogger). They also tell readers how their interactions on your site  are tracked and used.

THE STYLE HUSTLE. This post is pretty comprehensive, but still brief, on the main topics. But I found that the checklist is really great and makes for a great “quick health check” resource for your blog.

MELYSSA GRIFFIN. One of my favorite blogging blogs out there, Melyssa goes really in depth on creating a perfect about page in this post. An about page is essential for creating a well-rounded blog.

THE BLOG MARKET. Here’s a post that rounds up other posts. Actually, this one is great for coding-related topics.

LAYERED INDULGENCE. Branding is the most essential part of your blog design. Everything needs to be cohesive, so before getting started, read this post and dig into the resources shared.

THE BUSINESS OF BLOGGING

COLLABORATIONS

CLICK START CLUB. Having a contract is incredibly helpful for blog collaborations. They can be really complicated and aren’t always strictly necessary. But if you are asked to sign a contract, you should be looking for certain things that may limit you more than you like.

SLIGHTLY SAVVY. This post is really comprehensive for pitching yourself to companies. It’s not something I have a ton of experience with yet, but I’m keeping this post in my back pocket for when I’m ready.

FINANCES

LA LA LIZETTE. We’re getting close to tax season! Not all bloggers need to pay taxes, but if you receive any kind of benefit from your blog like money AND free product, you need to do the research. But taxes can be super complicated. I reccomend checking out this post to see if you qualify this tax season.

REROUTE LIFESTYLE. The most common way bloggers make money is through affiliate marketing. It’s a complex topic, but covered well in this post. Plus there’s a huge list of affiliate marketing networks you can potentially use on your blog.

PHOTOGRAPHY

MEET @ THE BARRE. Getting someone to take your pictures (if you’re planning on starting a fashion blog) is critical. But we ain’t all got budgets for photographers. I’m lucky enough to have a photographer in my boyfriend, Chris. But he didn’t realize his love for it until I really “forced” him into it

SOCIAL MEDIA & MARKETING

POOR LITTLE IT GIRL. For general social media tips, check out this post. It’s nice and brief and covers the major platforms. What I like about this most more than any other general post is that Cathy shared a little bit about how often and what she posts and that can get you started on your strategy.

PINTEREST

POOR LITTLE IT GIRL. This post from Poor Little It Girl made Pinterest make sense for me. I mean, Pinterest is pretty straight forward, but the nuances can be frustrating. You need to understand the basics before going in too deep. Cathy shared her favorite tools in the post, Tailwind and BoardBooster. I used and liked both programs, and knew they both had strengths and could be used in conjunction with each other. Cathy helped me figure out how.

JESSICA SLAUGHTER. Rich pins are essential for branding your content on Pinterest. It means no matter who pins your post, the pin reflects boldly the site that created it. Install them with the help of this article.

BY REGINA. If you like video, you’ll love this post. Regina’s posts really worth digging into when working on your blog, but this post is especially helpful for building your Pinterest strategy.

JUST A GIRL AND HER BLOG. Lastly for Pinterest, with a business account you can really dig into analytics. And man, are they helpful. Learn how to understand them in this post.

TWITTER

BUFFER. Setting up Twitter Cards are essential for making your content feel more branded and beautiful on the platform. Learn what they are and how to set them up in this post. They’ll make your life easier.

ARTS AND BUDGETS. Knowing what to tweet and how to tweet is the most essential factor for Twitter. For a concise list of how to make it work, check out this post.

INSTAGRAM

SUGAR AND CLOTH. This post has a video for helping you grow your IG, but I’m really obsessed with the tips for making your Stories look ultra chic.

CARLA BIESINGER. This is the coolest, most comprehensive post on Instagram I’ve come across. From tips on how to brand your feed, caption your posts, and frame your photos – you won’t be disappointed.

EMAIL LIST

MELYSSA GRIFFIN. The Queen of email lists herself has the most comprehensive guide for building your mailing list. Plus, a freebie to get a running start.

TWINS MOMMY. Here’s some ideas of emails you can send to your list.
