MUST HAVE WINTER JACKETS & COATS

Happy Fri-YAY, ladies! How has your week been so far? November for me is a weird time because it’s still definitely fall, but Winter is just constantly on my mind. So for today’s post I wanted to dip into that for a little bit and share my favorite winter jackets for this season.

STYLES TO LOOK FOR

This season, moto jackets are all the rage again. But they always are to edge up your look. Look for options with a cozy fur lining to keep you warm when the weather hits.

Anything with a check, plaid, or checker print is also hugely in this year. Think vintage Chanel, and enjoy. The look is so classy, but also modern when paired with leather leggings and a cozy knit.

Surprise, surprise, trench coats are also in. But when aren’t they? Every year it seems like we all act like this is a new thing right? Anyway, you can’t go wrong with the classic canvas trench. But I’ve been seeing a few camel colored woolen options that are looking pretty amazing. The structure offered by the wool really makes for a classy winter look.

Finally, faux fur has everyone dreaming. Even the cheetah styles are in. But what I’m really obsessing over are the more curly teddy-bear style fur jackets. They’re so damn cozy and the fact that they’re so trendy just makes it a win-win!

WHEN TO INVEST

For me, the biggest challenge is knowing when to spend and when to save on a jacket. In general, winter jackets can be pricey. But some have price tags that soar above the rest – and sometimes it’s worth it. But when? Take a look at your closet. What color dominates? I hang my clothes by color so this step is easy. But take a survey and survey what you tend to wear most as well.

For me, I wear a lot of black, punctuated with bold colors. So my investment winter jackets would be in black. But I also love a good camel coat, because it works well with black and just about any other color as well. You always want to invest in a jacket that will match most of what you wear, both in color and style. So, black and camel are my colors.

On a day to day basis, I mostly wear black, so I looked for quality jackets in casual styles (like the moto jacket in this post) to invest in. Other colors come out less often, and tend to be dressier, so I’m hunting down the perfect camel coat in a longer, and a little bit dressier style.

Outside of this range, grab your coats and winter jackets at the lower end of the price range. This is a great place to try out trends and styles you aren’t sure about it. You can always upgrade to a more high quality and expensive version if you find yourself wearing out one of the trendy styles. But wear out the cheaper, trendy, or different-for-you styles before upgrading.
