CUBICLE TO COCKTAIL: SUMMER DRESSES

Happy Tuesday, ladies! As excited as I am for fall (see last week’s transition posts here and here), September is still quite warm for most of us. So even if you aren’t wearing a bunch of summer dresses on the daily, I wanted to share a fun way to wear them at least for going out and enjoying the last bit of sunshine. I also think this is a great way to make the most out of your summer wardrobe in fall and winter if you have a few non-summer-printed dresses.

FIND THE PERFECT SKIRT + DRESS COMBO

Pour a glass of white wine (save the heartache of spills) and spend an hour or so experimenting with conservative skirts and pretty summer dresses in your closet. If you’re the type with a bad memory for styles, take notes or take quick pictures on your phone to save into a folder. Some dresses and skirts don’t play well together, so you’ll save yourself some time by testing a few out beforehand. You’ll also get a sense for what shapes work with each other so you’ll be able to spot those when you’re out shopping.

Here’s a few starters:

  • Fitted works with fitted, but don’t mix dark dresses with light-colored fitted skirts (#noseethrough).
  • Shorter dresses are easy to blouse, as long as your skirt isn’t too fitted (it’ll show the blousing). But you don’t want too loose of a skirt if you want to keep the look conservative and modern.
  • Fitted dresses work well with looser or midi skirts.

Keep in mind, depending on your work and body type, these starters may or may not work for you. That’s why the experimenting is so essential.

LOSE THE SKIRT

Alright, self explanatory step here. When it’s time for drinks, ditch that conservative work skirt and let your dress steal the show. If this isn’t the easiest way to completely change up your look in seconds, I don’t know what is!

ADD A PRETTY POP

Be it a pop of color or a fitting belt or sparkly earrings, adding a fun pop will just dress up your look even further. My dress didn’t have a lot of fit, so a belt made it more flattering. But that same looseness made the Cubicle version all the more pretty. So experiment with your accessories. And when all else fails, tossing your hair up into a ponytail with an ultra sparkly pair of will instantly spice up your look.

What do you think of this Cubicle to Cocktail look?
