Happy Monday, ladies! I’ve been missing catching up with you! I finally got the ball rolling on two projects that I’ve been pondering for the last couple months (year for one of them, actually) so I’ve been pretty caught up. Both the house and the garage are now almost totally complete and even an hour of work here and there makes a huge difference. But that basically means I don’t need to spend 3 hours a day on it, I can settle for half an hour or an hour every other day and we’ll still be done by the end of August! Even though I’m still feeling soooo far behind in this year, I’m thrilled with what’s been done. Anyway, for today’s post I though I would review a book I recently finished: Capture Your Style, by Aimee Song.

CAPTURE YOUR STYLE

So if you’re reading this blog because you discovered it through a fashion channel, you probably know who Aimee Song is. If you’re a friend, family, or lady finding this place from one of my other channels, then I’ll explain super briefly. Aimee Song is one of the original fashion bloggers to the scene, she’s one of the first big names, and she’s a big, amazing name. Bottom line – this girl knows what she’s doing. And her knowledge is seriously worth bank.

Song breaks Instagram down completely in a totally work hard, stay humble way. She’s designed an excellent reference book to look back into time and time again. But unlike many reference books, it also reads really well. So you can sit down and read them in two or three settings (or one if you’ve got time!), take notes, and then also keep the book available to reference. It’s an all in one piece.

FAVORITE BITS

  • Pages 96-99: I love the #OOTD Recap section and the accompanying photos. This is one of the pages I keep bookmarked and like to reference regularly just to make sure I’m keeping the tips in mind. I also try to focus on just nailing one at a time.
  • Pages 103-104: The ‘When to Selfie’ list is also super cool. I’m not super big on selfies in general, but I kind of like the inspiration for taking them. I think, when they’re well timed, they can add something to your feed and Song has great tips for getting that timing right.
  • Pages 124-131: The section on food photography is also super helpful. I mean, a food photo is so cliche – but when it’s that delicious, you can’t resist. Song shared some great tricks for making sure it looks as delicious as it tastes.
  • Page 157: A perfectly short and sweet flat-lay checklist. Enough said.
  • Pages 162-165: My last favorite section is the section on using Instagram to discover new cities. I’ve done this before, but Song really expanded on how to really find the good spots via the ‘Gram. And this is another section to save for a quick reference in the future!

IS IT FOR YOU?

If you are a blogger, Instagrammer, photographer, or in anyway a social media person – yes, you need this book. Aimee’s is probably the most evergreen take on social media and how best to use it for you and your brand. It’s also for people of all levels, from the hobby Instagrammers to business users. If you’re none of those things, it probably won’t be for you. But, let’s be real, how many of you reading this blog are actually none of those things? ;P

Have you read Aimee’s book? What did you think?
