CUBICLE TO COCKTAIL: CONSERVATIVE SLACKS

Classy Yet TrendyHappy Wednesday, ladies! It’s my favorite day of the week so I decided now would be a good time to share my favorite look of the week. I’m on a monochrome kick lately I guess, and this look was no exception. If you work in a conservative office, you’re probably no stranger to conservative slacks. The trouble with conservative slacks and they’re so blatantly professional it’s hard to wear them for anything else. But sometimes you want to head straight to girl’s night and there isn’t much time to make your look more cocktail appropriate. And that’s where today’s post comes into. I’m showing you how to take your professional look, and add a little more spice to it in the evening.

PICKING THE RIGHT CONSERVATIVE SLACKS

So, you have to start with the right slacks. It doesn’t matter if your looking for some for work or play, always shop around until you find a pair with a good fit. Professionally, it looks so much better. And it transitions to play much easier. I always look for some with a bit of a higher waist. That way you don’t have to worry about flashing anyone if you bend over, plus you can wear a top over them or tucked in and get two totally different looks!

TAKING CONSERVATIVE SLACKS FROM CUBICLE TO COCKTAIL

Like I mentioned in my last Cubicle to Cocktail post, you’re going to want to start by including a small clutch in your work bag. A big bag instantly makes an outfit less cocktail appropriate. And it’s really easy to tuck a large cosmetic bag or clutch into your purse or briefcase to use later.

Then, if you wore more conservative heels (which you probably did if you’re needing conservative slacks), swap them out for a more fun pair. I opted for white snakeskin because it’s still simple enough to not overpower the pants, but they’re also visually interesting!

Finally, the most important part is to swap out your blazer or cardigan for something way more fun. I love this cropped jacket that has an almost-blazer shape, which flows really nicely with the pants. BUT it’s in a fun color, with an awesome cut and bedazzling. If you have a sequin blazer, now is the time to break it out. Or use vintage pins to dress up the pockets of a cropped jacket you already own. Glitter is good, and it’s about the only thing that will pull your conservative office-appropriate slacks into cocktail hour. So go for it! You could also go a little monochromatic, like I did here, to give your look even more of a pop!
