HASK PURIFYING CHARCOAL REVIEW

Yay for first relaunch post! I could have spent a little more time celebrating, but I wanted to get right into the content because I’ve planned so much of it! So today I’m continuing my exploration through the Hask product pipeline with the Charcoal Clarifying system. I was super excited to try these products because, even though I’m all about that moisture in the ends of my hair, sometimes it’s just too heavy from product and moisture and becomes impossible to style. This is exactly why clarifying products were developed, and I’m pleased to report Hask nailed it.

First off, like all Hask products, the Charcoal Clarifying system is paraban and sulfate free. The charcoal line also uses, you guessed it, charcoal, as one of it’s primary ingredients. They’ve also added lemon and grapefruit oils to pump in a little vitamin-C and nourishment to prevent the clarifying ingredients from striping hair.

P.S., this is color-safe, so you shouldn’t see any of the color-loss associated with some clarifying shampoos, but keep in mind that all colored hair will fade with washes – no matter what you use.

CHARCOAL PURIFYING SHAMPOO.

This product actually won the OK! Beauty Award for 2016, and quite deservedly. It’s difficult, for me at least, to find clarifying shampoos that work at good price. And this one works. I wouldn’t say my hair is so thoroughly clarified like it gets when I use a salon brand, however, that might actually be a good thing because clarifying shampoos can be rough on hair. Typically with a really powerful clarifying shampoo, you don’t want to use it for every wash. During my trial with the Hask Charcoal Clarifying products, I did use the shampoo and conditioner every wash for maybe 6-7 washes in a row, and my hair was totally fine. I lasted quite awhile (up to 4 days) between washes without tons of oil and my ends weren’t exceptionally thirsty either.

CHARCOAL PURIFYING CONDITIONER.

This conditioner is that it’s not as moisturizing as the other Hask conditioners I’ve tried. I think the point of this conditioner is really to complement (duh) the shampoo, in a way that helps keep hair from becoming over-dry. Dryness can sometimes happen with clarifying shampoos. The reason I could go 3-4 days between washes was because it was less moisturizing. My ends were a little more dry than with any other Hask treatments I’ve used, but again – the point of clarifying is to pull the gunk from your hair and that can be drying.

CHARCOAL PURIFYING DEEP CONDITIONER.

This deep conditioner takes the conditioner one step further. While still using those clarifying ingredients, like charcoal, the deep conditioner focused on injecting a little extra moisture into hair after clarifying. My hair really drank it up and I used more than I did with other Hask deep conditioners. It didn’t make my hair heavy and did add just a little extra moisture to my hair, but it wasn’t groundbreaking for a deep conditioner.

FINAL VERDICT.

I will definitely be buying the shampoo and conditioner again. The deep conditioner I can live without, simply because I use deep conditioner to really pump the moisture into my hair so I like something based in coconut oil (like the Manoi Coconut Oil product line from Hask, which I reviewed here!) But the shampoo and conditioner are great products and will be especially useful during my excessive styling product use phases. 😜

Have you tried any of the Hask product line? Which is your favorite?
