I love trying new products. I don’t know what it is – the thrill of the hunt, maybe? – but I’m always looking for the next something good. I’ve actually been trying a ton of new products lately – so many that I’m struggling to find a way share my thoughts without transforming this place into Beauty in Flight. It just doesn’t have the same ring. 😉 I thought a good solution would be to share a handful of products in one post, so here’s five: four favorites, and one disappointment.

BEAUTY FAVORITES 🙂

TIGI BED HEAD ON THE REBOUND CURL RECALL CREAM.

So far, I’ve only used this on my hair when I let it air dry – that was the goal when I bought it. I have a couple other products I love to use for a blow dry. But I wanted something to even out and boost the natural curl and texture of my hair when I wasn’t planning on styling it. I doesn’t do A LOT, but I do notice fewer part problems and a little more bend and wave. The biggest bonus is the part help, I have super thin and dark hair so I end up with this horrible part on the back of my head when it air dries and there’s really nothing I can do about it. Braids, etc, just move it to other places. The curl cream adds a little texture and volume to my hair that helps to hide the atrocious beast. It also feels like it’s adding moisture to my hair and helps it dry a little bit faster/prettier. It’s not a game changer, but I will absolutely continue to use it until I find something better. A little help is better than none!

MARY KAY TIMEWISE AGE FIGHTENING MOISTURIZER (COMBINATION/OILY).

I’ve been a big Mary Kay fan since my mom became a consultant years ago. If you looked in my bathroom, you’d feel like you stepped into a Mary Kay store (not a thing, but you get the idea). In all my history and bundles of products, I’ve only been disappointed once. By a limited edition pencil eyeliner a few years back. This moisturizer has been one of my all time favorites for years. Living in Montana, I knew painful dry skin. But my skin is also oily and prone to breakouts so I needed a moisturizer that I could layer and control. This one is amazing. It is super thin, so I can use it daily. But when I have dry periods, I can apply a few layers and really target where the moisture is going which helps tremendously in avoiding breakouts. P.S. My mom is still a Mary Kay consultant so if you don’t already have one and want to try this product through her, shoot me an email at fashioninflight@gmail.com!

BIG SEXY HAIR WHAT A TEASE BACKCOMB IN A BOTTLE.

By far, my favorite product on this list. I cannot get enough of it. It gives me texture, it gives me lift, it locks in any teasing – it’s really been great. My only frustration is that it is a producty product, you know something is in your hair. But if you have difficult hair like I do, then there’s really no way to get the results that it gives without that feeling. I use it after a curl on air-dried, second day hair and create a perfectly lifted and effortlessly texturized look. I especially focus it around my roots and may or may not actually backcomb it, depending on how bad my part is and how flat my hair is. If I really want to avoid the product feeling in my hair, I’ll stick to using it at my roots and use a different, lighter texture spray to add some life to my ends.

MARCELLE BB CREAM GOLDEN GLOW.

Like I said, my skin has been stupidly and painfully dry recently. I got this little gem in my Birchbox last month and decided to give it a try. I used it in place of my primer and my liquid foundation. It’s supposedly a one-size fits all color, and I can see why. It blended into my skin really well, but didn’t quite give me the coverage I like. I usually top foundation with a light layer of powder foundation to set the liquid though, so I just applied a little more with relatively same results. In just about two days, using the Marcelle BB Cream in the morning and the Mary Kay Moisturizer both in the morning and evening I was able to nourish and clear up the minor-moderate dry patches around my eyes and nose. The severe dryness at the corners of my mouth, however, has persisted to annoy me another day. Though, I don’t doubt this product combination (+ some Carmex) will have it cleared up in a week.

BEAUTY DISAPPOINTMENTS 🙁

KMS CALIFORNIA HAIR PLAY MAKE OVER SPRAY.

I’ve tried this product on and off a few times. It’s a make over spray and it was recommended to me as a dry shampoo. The body labels itself as “dry cleansing and style maintenance.” I wanted so badly to love it, I really did, but I just wasn’t impressed. I want a dry shampoo to soak up oils, create lift and generally be a shampoo, that is dry. It’s a lofty goal for any product, but the KMS Make Over Spray just left my hair feeling gritty, weighted down, and kind of sticky. Opposite of all my desires. However, it did add texture without a lot of the product feeling that texture sprays add. So this product is a definite no on the dry shampoo scale, but I might grab it in a pinch to add a little texture to the ends of my hair. Far, far from my roots.

None of the products reviewed in this post were sponsored in any way.
