FORMULAIC FASHION

Keeping up with errands for school and work is a serious chore. Especially during the Holiday’s. Between wrapping presents and filing oodles of paperwork, I had little time to dream up fun, creative outfits. But fashion and style is still very important to me, so yoga pants never quite cut it (outside the house, that is). I’ve mentioned my belief in creating fool-proof formulas before, and today I’m going to share my most recent go-tos.

Always remember to KISS (Keep it simple, Stupid), but don’t let formulas become a rut. They’re great when it’s a busy day, or week, and you just don’t have time to pull something together. But it’s easy to let them take over the every day. For me, that’s how I end up feeling uninspired and like I always am wearing the same thing – because I am.

To prevent that, sometimes it’s helpful to have multiple formulas. Try tacking a piece of pretty note paper in your closet with quick ideas for the season, like these:

sweater + leggings + boots + simple necklace
dress + tights + ankle boots + statement necklace
silky top + skinny jeans + cardigan + earrings+ pendent necklace

Sticking to about four to five main pieces keeps it easy, it’s not that hard to throw on four things. Plus, it keeps your options open – no one says you can’t add a couple of pretty rings and a bracelet, but even without them the look isn’t unfinished. Also by keeping the list super short, it forces you to still change things up a bit. Notice how there’s no shoes in my third formula? Hello, variety.

Use these formulas or make up your own that work for you. If you’ve been wanting to wear, say, pencil skirts more often, then make a formula including them. These are a great opportunity to encourage yourself to branch out and try some of things you’ve been wanting to try wearing more. Obviously, they’re just a guide and you don’t have to stick to them, but it sure is helpful to have even that much of a clue when it’s 7:45 and you needed to leave 15 minutes ago. πŸ˜‰

Have you ever tried something like this? What are your favorite go-to combinations? I’d love to hear!

P.S. I updated my About Me, go check it out! πŸ™‚

This is brilliant! I need a simple formula for getting myself out of the house quickly. The dress + tights + ankle boots is my current favorite. Just stopping by from the link up. πŸ™‚

What a splendid idea! I love so much the first formula (black legging + black + boots) that I am pinning it on #AllAboutYou board & my own Inspiration blog & I will recreate the outfit this w-end for our short trip to Brussels to visit friends.

I agree that having a formula does help getting dressed. For work, mine is always a pencil skirt with a blazer.

Thank you for joining TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you next week. Have a great weekend!
