So, the name of this product is a mouthfulGarnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Flat Iron Perfector Straightening Mist. Try saying that five times fast. But it’s not overcompensating. It really is a wonderful product, with a great price, to boot.

I’ve heard a lot of talk about wether or not heat protecting sprays are useful. Personally, I always use some kind of thermal protection. I’m trying to grow my hair out and keep it as healthy as possible, so I’d rather err on the safe side. Initially, I grabbed this product because my normal heat protecting spray was out of stock. Pretty soon after that, I almost totally stopped heat styling my hair. Since I chopped my bangs off, I’ve rediscovered this little gem in my cabinet.

Straightening my hair is the fastest heat-styled technique for my hair. (I have yet to discover a way to curl my hair in less than an hour.) It usually takes about 30-45 minutes from combing, to blow dry to flat iron for me to do my hair. It’s not a whole lot of time, and I don’t mind it, but faster is always better. I start with a leave in conditioner and a comb, then use a straightening balm and heat protecting volumizer to blow dry.

After blow drying, I’ll either go right to ironing, or I’ll grab this spray. The times I don’t use it, I seriously question myself and my commitment to laziness. This straightening mist cuts about 5 to 7 minutes off my ironing time. It really does help my hair straighten faster and I feel better knowing I don’t have to run the iron across my hair several times to make it flat. A little goes a long way, it only takes a few sprits to flat iron all of my hair. And it lasts forever, I’ve had my hair twisted up and slept on and it still is pretty straight until I wash it. There might be a little bend if I slept weirdly, but it’s never so bad that I need to run the iron over it again. Just perfectly disheveled, you know, ’cause you never wanna look like you tried too hard. ;P

One concern I have is that, since it’s mostly water based, it actually is the opposite of a heat protector. The directions say to spray on hair, then immediately iron. I’m way too afraid of sizzling, so I usually brush the product through my hair then iron when it doesn’t feel wet. The mist is so fine, though, that I can usually iron it right after combing. But if you tend to be an over-applier, it’s a good thing to pay attention to how much you’re using.

So far, I haven’t noticed any extra damage and it makes my hair smell really yummy, but not too strong. If you’re looking for a little flat iron boost, try this one. For $3.49, you really can’t go wrong.

*This post is entirely my own opinion. I purchased this product of my own free will and commitment to good hair days. Garnier has no idea who I am. First image from their site.
